Sheridan, Colorado

Safe Routes to Play, Safe Routes to School

As part of a Safe Routes to School Grant, GP RED worked with the City of Sheridan, Sheridan Community and Neighborhood Development Office, Sheridan School District, and South Suburban Parks & Recreation to conduct photo voice participatory research and active transportation mapping activities with 28 middle school students. Grant partner Bicycle Colorado conducted bicycle education activities throughout the district with the Sheridan Police Department.

The students presented their findings at a community event promoting the passage of a $31 million bond for infrastructure improvements including sidewalks, at a community leadership forum on active transportation, and to the Sheridan City Council. The students helped the City’s leadership prioritize sidewalk improvement projects within 1/2 mile of the middle school to promote safe walking and bicycling to school.
